1. A Century of Tokyo’s Leather Legacy

Tokyo’s eastside has been Japan's premier leather district for over 100 years. This area is home to specialized tanners who have refined urban craftsmanship through generations.

2. The Art of Burnished Wax

What defines our leather is the unique "Burnished Wax" (Kogashi) technique. Original wax is hand-applied and heat-treated to create a deep, lustrous patina that evolves beautifully as you use it.

3. The 0.3mm Engineering: A Collaboration of Masters

A "Leather Folding Fan" was long considered a functional impossibility because leather is naturally too thick to fold. If the material is even slightly too heavy, the fan will not close, losing its identity as a folding tool.

  • The Precision of Katsushika Artisans: To overcome this, the master tanners at Katsushika Leather use their specialized expertise to split and skive the hide to an incredible 0.3mm. This precision engineering provides the suppleness of paper while retaining the durability of luxury leather.
  • The Final Masterpiece: This ultra-thin leather is then passed to Master Hiroshi Matsui. Because of the precision-thinning by the Katsushika tanners, Matsui-san can apply his legendary 30-step process to create a fan that folds with surgical precision and produces a sharp, exhilarating "Snap" when closed.
